Under Armour Headquarters in Baltimore Integrates a Discreet 1 SOUND System
Under Armour’s Headquarters
At a corporate headquarters, an event space may need to accommodate everything from company presentations and keynote speakers to workout sessions with energetic music. At Under Armour’s headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland, McCann Systems integrated a 1 SOUND system designed to support these different applications while preserving the room’s original aesthetic.
Positioned on either side of a large LED screen, the loudspeakers are recessed into the walls behind grilles, keeping the system visually invisible within the space.
Performance Behind the Architecture
The installation features Tower LCC84 loudspeakers paired with SUB310 subwoofers. Using 1 SOUND’s Tower Rigging System Accessory, the components are secured together in a compact configuration that can be recessed into the wall.
The Tower LCC84 is a compact, high-output cardioid line array element. Its coaxial transducers combine a 4-inch cone driver with a compression driver, while additional rear-facing 4-inch full-range transducers help produce a cardioid radiation pattern with up to 20 dB of rear attenuation.
The Tower is articulate, intimate sounding, and predictable. Because it is a true line array design, the Tower column is particularly significant when presenters use lavalier microphones and move around the room or in front of the loudspeaker. Utilizing the Towers gives the system a better response for gain before feedback, diminishing the chance of feedback.
The Tower LCC84 also provides 120° horizontal coverage on the axis, supporting broad sound distribution from a compact enclosure.
Compact Bass with Substantial Output
Supporting the Tower LCC84 loudspeakers, the SUB310 provides low-frequency reinforcement in a slim, compact enclosure. Its 10-inch tetra-coil technology driver is designed to deliver fast, responsive bass, with a maximum SPL of 137 dB.
For a multipurpose corporate venue, low-frequency reinforcement can add impact to music-driven events while complementing the spoken-word content used in presentations. The SUB310’s compact form factor also supports installations where space and visual integration are important considerations.
A Flexible System for Everyday Use and Special Events
Under Armour’s headquarters space accommodates a range of uses, from corporate presentations and keynote speakers to special workout sessions accompanied by energetic music. The combination of Tower LCC84 loudspeakers and SUB310 subwoofers is suited to these differing requirements, pairing controlled directivity for spoken-word applications with low-frequency support for music.
The 1 SOUND Tower Rigging System accessory secures the loudspeaker components in their configuration. Constructed with billet structural aluminum plates and stainless steel locking pins and screws, the accessory supports connections between Tower elements, additional Tower columns, subwoofers, and a fly bar.
By combining cardioid loudspeaker technology, compact components, and a concealed installation, McCann Systems integrated a sound system that supports the space’s varied uses while preserving its visual design.
And perhaps Eric Winnicki of McCann Systems' reaction explains it best: “Beautiful speakers!”
